When I was really little, I was a huge fan of The Monkees. Because of that, I started listening to a lot of music, joined choir and band, and starting taking music lessons.
Most listened to song in the
I’ve been listening to Simon and Garfunkel recently. It is really good music to sing when I am warming up for musicals.
What do you drink during a show?
Water – sometimes with lemon.
Favorite local band or artist?
Two bands come to mind. First, I like The Naymes. They do a lot of oldies covers. Second, I like Suite. They have a lot of energy, and I am always impressed with bands that can do a mixture of funk, soul, and rock and roll. Basically, any music that can be danced to is my favorite.
If you could run sound for one artist no longer among the living, who would it be? Why?
Prince. I never got to see him live.
Favorite local hangout?
Terza is my favorite restaurant. They have really good espresso that comes with biscotti. Perfect combination. Muna Halal is a Somalian restaurant that has really good food, too. A banana always comes with the meal – to eat with the rice.
Top three artists at the moment?
Simon and Garfunkel. They can sing relaxing harmonies and then sing songs with a lot of punch. Dave Matthews Band. They are an incredible band to see live. They perform with a variety of different instruments and incorporate many styles of music. Prince. He is an awesome guitarist. At the time he was creating his music, he did things no one had ever done before, especially in the music industry itself. He made people think about who has copyright ownership and how music gets sold. Plus, he has awesome fashion sense.
One book everyone should read?
“Namesake” by Jhumpa Lahiri. It follows an Indian family as they grow up and experience their culture alongside American culture. Readers get really good insight into what it is like to live in a different country. It’s a human experience that is relevant to modern American society.
If you had to outlaw one song from ever being played again, which would it be and why?
There are several. Any early Taylor Swift song, any country song that mentions drinking or trucks, and any song that is predominately auto-tuned. I really appreciate any songs that are natural sounding.
Kindest words from an audience member?
A lot of people say that they really like our harmonies. They like the way our voices sound together. And they say that we should record an album.
