Chamber music festival opens Friday in Houston
HOUSTON — The newly named Apollo Music Festival, bringing live chamber music to rural southeastern Minnesota, opens with a concert Friday at Cross of Christ Church, 204 S. Chase St., Houston.
The five-concert series will be presented in Houston and Caledonia through Aug. 29. The festival was known formerly as the Houston Chamber Music Festival, but the name was changed to avoid confusion with Houston, Texas, and to serve as a better name for future growth, said Garret Ross, artistic director.
All participating musicians are professionals who teach and perform with major orchestras. Among the musicians is Grammy-nominated pianist Eteri Andjaparidze.

— 3 p.m. Sunday, Cross of Christ Church, Houston; Mozart String Duo No. 1, Robert Schumann Piano Quintet, additional pieces by Barber and Rachmaninoff.
— 7 p.m. Wednesday, Caledonia High School, Caledonia; Mozart String Duo No. 1, Haydn, Piano Trio, additional pieces by Barber and Dvorak.
— 7 p.m. Aug. 27, Cross of Christ Church, Houston; Beethoven “An die Ferne Geliebte,” R. Strauss “4 Lieder,” additional pieces by Haydn and Dvorak.
— 3 p.m. Aug. 29, Cross of Christ Church, Houston; Piazzolla “Le Grand Tango,” Martinu Sonata for Two Violins and Piano, additional pieces by Mozart and R. Strauss.
Admission to all concerts is free.

Outdoor music not out of season yet in Decorah
DECORAH, Iowa — The concerts in the courtyard at ArtHaus in Decorah still have a few weeks to run, starting Friday with music by Contratopia.
Contratopia has performed for hundreds of contra dances and waltz events around the country, and this will be a chance to hear the band play jigs, reels, airs and waltzes. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for students.
Also coming up at ArtHaus is a concert by the folk duo of Katie Dahl and Rich Higdon. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for students.
Tickets are available in advance at ArtHaus and the Oneota Food Coop in Decorah.
The ArtHaus courtyard is at 516 W. Water St. in Decorah.
Christian hip hop artist to perform in Zumbrota
ZUMBROTA — Christian hip hop artist Dave Scherer will perform at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 1 at the State Theatre, 96 E. Fourth St., Zumbrota.
Scherer performs as AGAPE, combining rapping, dancing and storytelling. His goal is to bring together people of all backgrounds and to let them know about his faith. He calls his ministry “Hip Hop Outreach.”

Classic Brass brings curtain down on Oasis series
The final Oasis Courtyard concert of the season will be presented at noon Aug. 27 at Calvary Episcopal Church, Third Avenue and Second Street Southwest in downtown Rochester.
The Classic Brass quintet will perform in the church courtyard. In case of rain, the concert will move inside the church. Admission is free.
