ZUMBROTA — Guitarist Billy McLaughlin will bring some mystery guests along with him when he performs at 8 p.m. July 11 at Crossings at Carnegie, 320 East Ave., Zumbrota.
McLaughlin, who won an Emmy Award in 2013 for Musical Composition/Arrangement for his “Billy McLaughlin: Starry Night with Orchestra Nova.” McLaughlin has received nationwide attention for his determination to teach himself to play guitar left-handed after a neurological disease affected his right hand. He already had a distinct style, playing with both hands on the fret board and creating a harp-like sound on the guitar.

Block Party features live music, fireworks
RED WING — Hitchville will play on an outdoor stage from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday at the Treasure Island Casino Block Party.
Admission is free; lawn chairs welcome, but no coolers are allowed. There will be a break at dusk for fireworks, with the music resuming afterward. The Block Party is billed as a family event.
Meanwhile, inside the Parlay Lounge, the band Switch will pay from 8:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.
Treasure Island Casino is located at 5734 Sturgeon Lake Road, north of Red Wing.
Lanesboro Barn Dance season continues July 11
LANESBORO — Guest fiddler AJ Srubas will play music for the Lanesboro Barn Dance at 8 p.m. July 11 at the Sons of Norway Hall in Lanesboro.
Srubas will be joined by Bob Bovee on guitar and Rina Rossi, who will call the dances. There will be traditional square dances, big circles, waltzes and polkas. No partner or experience is necessary. Admission is $7.
This is the 21st season of the Lanesboro Barn Dance, which began in 1995. Dances this year will also be held Aug. 15 and Sept. 12.
