Lyra Baroque Orchestra will close its 30th anniversary season with a salute to Mozart at 7:30 p.m. May 8 at Christ United Methodist Church, 400 Fifth Ave. SW, Rochester.
“The Soul of Genius: Mozart and His World” will feature Jaap ter Linden as guest conductor and soprano Meredith Hall. In addition to Mozart’s Symphony No. 21, the program includes Haydn’s “Arianna a Naxos” and C.P.E. Bach’s Harpsichord Concert in G Major with Jacques Ogg, Lyra’s artistic director, at the keyboard. This season marks the 15th with Ogg as director.
Recently retired from the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague, ter Linden is a regular guest artist with Lyra. He teaches and performs around the world. Hall, a Canadian, also performs with orchestras around the world but is especially in demand for Baroque and Classical-era works.
Tickets are $3 adults, $20 for MPR members, $6 for students, available at the door or online at lyrabaroque.org/genius. Free tickets are available at the lobby table for Mayo Clinic volunteers and patients, music students, Rochester Music Guild members and volunteers to nonprofit organizations.
Mayer brings new songs to Zumbrota
ZUMBROTA — Singer/songwriter Peter Mayer brings his songs about the human journey to Zumbrota for a concert at 7:30 p.m. May 9 at the State Theatre, 96 E. Fourth St.
Mayer will play songs from his new album, “Third Street,” as well as favorites from his career, which stretches back to the mid-1990s. That’s when Mayer, who once studied at a seminary and was a church music director, decided to devote himself full-time to music.
He regularly performs from coast to coast at coffeehouses, colleges, theaters and churches.

Sweet Adelines will serve up tea and tunes
Zumbro Valley Chorus of Sweet Adelines will present “The Colors of Spring,” a spring tea, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. May 9 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 222 Sixth Ave. SW, Rochester.
Along with tea and refreshments, there will be music by the chorus, with songs including “Dancing Queen,” “A Bundle of Old Love Letters” and “At the Hop.” Guest performers will be Gambit, a men’s barbershop quartet and 2014 Land o’ Lakes Southwest Division Champions. There also will be a silent auction.
Admission is $5.
Trio keeps Thyme with Friday show
Bungum, Olson & Walsh will play from 6 p.m. to 10 .m. Friday at Thyme Restaurant and Lounge, 220 S. Broadway, Rochester.
The trio consists of local musicians Bruce Bungum, Brian Olson and Mark Walsh.
