Thursday June 2
At 8:30 tonight, head up to Kathy’s Pub patio for the summer’s first Thursdays on First after-party. Tunes come free of charge thanks to Smash & Grab, an acoustic pop trio. The band is one of the Rochester music scene’s rising stars, as they imbue covers from the ‘70s into present day with a sense of fun and lightness that fits perfectly with a sunset beverage. The band’s selections include Men at Work’s “Down Under,” Evanescence’s “Bring Me Back to Life” and Alanis Morissette’s “You Outta Know.”
Rochester’s jazz heroes The D’Sievers have a busy weekend lined up. They play from 5 to 6 on the Peace Plaza stage at this afternoon’s Thursdays on First festivities. Then, at 7:30 on Friday night, they play Five West as a trio with Jon Davis on keys, Steve Sawyer on bass and John Sievers on the ‘bone. On Saturday, they add Kurt Savela on the drums and beef up to a quartet when they play Kinney Creek Brewery at 7:30 pm. Check their sounds at Reverbnation and make sure you leave some room on your skin free in case they’re still handing out those temporary mermaid tattoos.
