Minneapolis, New York City … Rochester?
Yes, Rochester belongs in such exalted company when it comes to the annual New Standards Holiday Show. The Christmas concert will be presented Dec. 19 at Mayo Civic Center, after it has had a sold-out run in Minneapolis and a one-show date (today) at Lincoln Center in New York.
The New Standards — Chan Poling, John Munson and Steve Roehm — are based in the Twin Cities. Poling was with the Suburbs, Munson played with Trip Shakespeare and Semisonic, and Roehm was in Billygoat. Together, they play a jazzy selection of their favorite cover songs by rock, soul and pop artists.
As is usual with the New Standards Holiday Show, there’ll be a mix of Christmas and non-Christmas tunes and a lineup of guest stars, including Twin Cities music luminaries Chris Koza and Jeremy Messersmith. Don’t be surprised if a couple of well-known local singers are also part of the surprise.
Tickets are $31, available at the civic center box office (no service fee), and through Ticketmaster online, at 800-745-3000 and at Rochester Walmart stores.
