But I don’t mean that one. I mean, check out the actual big red ball for sure, and it’s easy to find today since you’ll be downtown for Thursdays on First & Third anyway — the ball is hanging out today on historic Third Street between Broadway and First Avenue.
Like trying a new dish or tasting a wine or beer you’ve never had before, you’ve got to see the ball before it leaves town, even if you walk away confused or wondering what the big deal is. If one ingredient of the dish sparked something in you, or one flavor profile note of the drink interested you, or the big red ball only made you smile for a moment, those experiences are worth it.
And speaking of new drinks, you can celebrate public art by having your own big red ball — at Salute Wine Bar and More in the downtown Marriott, for a limited time order the Red Ball Margarita, which is Salute’s Italian margarita served with a red berry ice ball and garnished with a lime. Now, there’s something to see.
Will #hashtag for food
There are a couple easy-to-enter contests happening right now, and if you win, you’ll be (potentially) paid in food and drink. That sounds like a winner right there.
First, back to Thursdays on First: For just one week a month this summer, the fine folks at the Rochester Downtown Alliance are sponsoring an Instagram/Twitter contest. Today, June 11, happens to be your lucky day for this month.
All you do is take a photo at the Thursdays on First and Third downtown street vendor and music event, include hashtag #ThursdaysOnFirst in your caption, post to Instagram and Twtter, and you’ll be entered to be one of two winners for a $150 downtown Rochester gift card you can use in many participating downtown businesses. I’d go out to a restaurant with my winnings, obviously.
Remember, this is your only day to participate this month, so get your red ball margarita, take a selfie with it and the actual Big Red Ball in the background, hashtag that baby, and maybe you’ll get lucky.
If not, the fine folks at Forager Brewing Company are offering something a bit different.
To generate buzz for the opening of their coffee-shop-by-day, brewpub-by-night concept, Forager is sponsoring an Instagram contest.
As Forager’s name implies, owner Annie Henderson and her collaborators are into finding, reclaiming, and reusing. From their building materials to the ingredients they use in their dishes, they’re looking for ways to take what’s there and make it new and fresh.
So now, they’re asking how you do the same thing in your life. What do you forage for?
Take a photo of something you look for, find, and bring to life — and then Instagram it. Simply include hashtag #ForageFor and tag @foragerbrewery on Instagram. They’re picking a new winner each week throughout this month, and the winner gets two tickets to a soft opening event later this summer.
