An opening reception will be held Feb. 26 for two new exhibitions at the Rochester Art Center.
— Emmet Ramstad’s “After You” is the the first show of 2016 in the art center’s Third Floor Emerging Artists series. The exhibition features new sculpture and installation work by Ramstad, who is based in Minneapolis. The sculptures in the exhibition have their beginnings as familiar bathroom fixtures, including towel dispensers, soap dishes, bathroom stalls and other items. Included is a 30-foot long soap dish; visitors are asked to donate their own remnant soap pieces for the sculpture.
— C. Anthony Huber’s “Re-Surface” is part of the RAC2 Local Artist Exhibition Series. Huber was born and lives in Rochester, but has traveled, worked and lived in Asia, the Pacific region and the Middle East. The work in this exhibition is inspired by a roadway intersection from his childhood, and utilizes concrete and blacktop, along with oil paint, to recreate surfaces of pavement he has been photographing and cataloging for 20 years.
The opening reception is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.. An artist talk with Ramstad and curator Susannah Majors will be presented at 7 p.m. The Rochester Art Center is at 40 Civic Center Drive SE.
Both exhibitions continue through April 24.
