Time to book your calendar with this month’s amazing culinary events. Get your planner out because you’re gonna want to write these down.
A couple months back, Creative Cuisine Company announced they would be closing Rochester favorite City Cafe for a remodel and transition to a new Mexican concept restaurant, called Hefe Rojo, next month.
They’ve now announced their last day open as City Cafe will be April 16, so you have just a few more evenings to get in your last supper. What’s on your must-have, last-hurrah list?
Here’s my last meal. Appetizer: wild mushroom naan pizza. Entree: coconut curry bowl. Drink: Minnesota jump-up. Dessert: white chocolate bread pudding. Farewell, old friend. (Sob!)
Tres Amigos Deliciosos
They’re back! For one day only on Wednesday, April 20, starting at 5 p.m., Three Amigos will be taking over the dining room at Prescotts again and serving up their signature street tacos (without the taco truck). Get ready for a packed house, Mexican beer and the delicious simplicity of taco night.
A ZZesty taste of spring
But save some room, because April 20 is also the date of Chef Justin’s Spring Tasting at ZZest Cafe & Bar. That’s Chef Justin Schoville they’re talking about, and if he creates something for you to taste, the answer is always yes.
This evening sounds like a lot of fun and full of stories from the talented chef team at ZZest, speaking to how family traditions and legacy has informed their creative pursuits (and your delicious meal).
Cost is $65 per person, and you can add wine pairings for $25. This meal will have only one seating at 6:30 p.m., and you’ll need a reservation — call 507-424-0080.
Need I say more? OK, maybe just a few more details so you know where and when the bacon is happening.
Although they already hosted what was to be the last chef “warzz” of the season, ZZest has responded to customer demand and scheduled one more: Bacon Warzz. It works like this: On two pre-scheduled nights, ZZest serves up its regular menu PLUS a special “warzz” menu on the side. Three chefs prepare their creative twist around a theme, and then patrons who eat from the warzz menu vote for a winner. (The winning chef gets bragging rights.) It’s just a lot of good fun, a chance to try something new and make a game out of dinner — especially when your significant other doesn’t agree which dish deserves your vote.
So, back to bacon. On April 26 and 27, ZZest will be serving those special menus. Make a reservation or just show up, but take it seriously. It’s bacon.
Have a round for the Rounds
This month marks one year since Grand Rounds opened its doors after an extensive remodel of its historic building. Now, Grand Rounds is one of the most popular microbreweries in town, and head brewer Steve Finnie has been able to share his brew craftsmanship to more people than can fit in his basement.
To celebrate, Grand Rounds is celebrating “a year of beer” with a street party at 5 p.m. Saturday, April 30. There will be live music, Grand Rounds beer and a pig roast. No cover, but attendees must be 21 and older (the brewpub will be open to all ages and serving its full menu).
Stop down and raise a glass to an amazing year. Congrats to owner Tessa Leung and the Grand Rounds team!
