We couldn’t be more excited to bring the latest trend to Rochester with UNVEILED – The Ultimate Bridal Show on January 29th at the Mayo Civic Center. As we’ve been tracking the latest trend to showcase at the show, we see one that stands out above all the others.
Great trends always seem to circle back in the fashion world, and weddings are no exception. Without a doubt, we are excited by the newest trend in weddings: decadence. You might think tradition can’t be trending since it’s “classic,” but as weddings have transformed over the past decade, they have become increasingly less formal. From Pinterest-inspired farm weddings to the Boho eclecticism all over Etsy, couples have been tailoring weddings that look more like an Anthropologie catalog than the formal weddings of years past.
However, opulence is coming back with a vengeance. From the full ball gowns walking the fashion catwalks to the resurgence of golden opulence, which has not been seen since the 1980s, weddings seem to be gravitating to this fresh look. Classic is back, and we’ve been watching hints of it as the popularity of certain elements, like the classic tuxedo, come back into vogue.
We are excited by the new found interest to dress up again, and cocktail inspired receptions are on the rise. There is something special about a formal affair and, well, that James Bond cache is as popular now as it ever has been. Watch for formality to set back in with classic elements getting a bit of an updated look. Classic patterns will be popular, but look for unique interpretations and new uses.
Specialty linens are getting more formal, as well as the interest in classic china and crystal (again with gold as the predominate feature). Formal place settings, classic menus and traditional flowers are all coming back, as is the interest in a multiple course, seated reception. If this doesn’t feel regal enough, don a tiara. Designers at New York’s Bridal Fashion Week brought the modern tiara back as the perfect accent to the new voluminous gowns they were showing.
While we are not sure many of you will have swans gracing the reception a la Father of the Bride, we do see more formal invitations in classic papers and interest in age-old engraved or letterpress styles. Décor has certainly taken a traditional turn as we see more options with French-inspired opulence, rich tufting and a classic aesthetic.
Accessories have moved back to golds and mixed metals, which means we’ll be seeing centerpieces with shiny gold containers or matte gold finishes. Even flatware has undergone a transformation! Watch for more options in gold, or even rose gold, to enhance your table settings. Crystal candelabras and chandeliers are becoming popular again, adding to the almost royal feel of these more formal festivities.
The pendulum has swung back and we are excited to see how many couples will define a new tradition as they style a more classic wedding vision. Will it be back to the formal ceremony and classic ballroom reception? Will formal portraits and cascade bouquets be all the rage? Will billowy sleeves take us back to the 1980s? Only time can tell what this newest trend will mean for the modern wedding.
But you don’t have to worry, because you can discover all the latest wedding trends at UNVEILED on January 29th at the May Civic Center. Not only will the newest fashions grace the fashion show, we’ve also put together experiences for you to immerse in the latest culinary developments, find out the latest wedding day beauty tips and discover the newest decor options.
