274 Main St., Zumbrota
Located on the main street of Zumbrota, Artify is a true creative collective. Art of all media is on display: watercolor, photography, fiber arts, jewelry, woodwork and more. The space is a home for artists and makers from all over southeast Minnesota. Owner and founder Stacy Drenckhahn shares her thoughts on her store, her town and why supporting local is so important.
“We have over 30 artists, and we’re still evolving and growing,” she says of the year-old business. There is a classroom in the basement where artists, both members and non-members, can hold workshops or use for creative space.
Being a member collective, each artist helps work in the store once a month. Often when working at Artify, the artists also work on new pieces, giving customers an up close encounter with the creative process. “It’s like an indoor art show all the time,” says Drenckhahn.
“For a town with no stoplights, it’s kind of amazing,” says Drenckhahn. The businesses in downtown Zumbrota have formed various organizations to work together and support each other. “It’s just a neat community we have, everyone works really well together.” Businesses often refer customers to other stores in town if they are looking for something in particular.
“I love this, what we’re doing,” says Drenckhahn. “I think it’s really neat. We are all about supporting local artists, giving them a home and a place to show off their work. We want to help artists keep doing what they love and sharing what they love.”
