Carousel Floral Gift & Garden Center has been in Rochester since 1991. The shop began in a small location across from St. Mary’s Hospital on 2nd Street. “Carousel grew very fast,” says founder Jack Hawkins. “We soon needed more space and opened a second location at Broadway and Center Street.” Since then, the original location has closed and reopened in a larger space on 41st Street NW.
Carousel has blossomed in the 25 years it’s been in business (pun very much intended). They still offer a wide range of stunning bouquets and flowers for every occasion, but what you might not know is they offer plant leasing. “We have plants in various businesses and we water and take care of them,” says Jack. They also do many of the outdoor pots you see around town in front of businesses, apartments and homes.
Flowers aren’t the only items you’ll find at either store. In fact, you might think you’ve walked into the wrong place if you’ve never visited Carousel before. They offer an incredible amount of home and yard décor items. Their attention to trends and holidays is notable, and they have a wide range of statues, wall hangings, floral arragements and more.
Small businesses are an integral part of every community, says Jack. His feelings are echoed by Mike Zander, co-owner. “Small businesses support each other,” says Mike. Co-owner Jeanne Copple notes that “a lot of the cost of doing business is our business paying other small business for carpentry, plumbing, other necessities, all the while keeping our money local.”
“We’re all supporting each other,” echoes Mike, a sentiment widely held in the local business community.
