602 7th St. NW, Rochester
Much has changed in the two years since Dwell Local first opened its doors. Owner Paul Bennett recalls the shop began with 11 artists; now it holds over 40. The space itself has also expanded, almost tripling its square footage. And still, the store is “bulging at the seams,” says Bennett.
He feels Rochester was the right place for Dwell Local because it’s not too big and not too small. “And Rochester is fun because you get a lot of locals, but we’re starting to attract more of the clinic patients.”
Inside, you’ll find art of all kind: mixed media pieces, jewelry, make your own terrarium, upcycled furniture, clothing on Fridays, antiques, soaps, canned goods and more.
Bennett’s goal is to give makers a chance to showcase their work. “A lot of (the makers) have never shown before, so that’s pretty cool, and some have been around a while.”
Supporting local businesses and artists means something deep to Bennett. “It’s what helps make a community. We’re all supporting each other; it makes it personal.”
